Ohio Scales are administered during assessment, every 90-days and at discharge. The parent/guardian and youth individually rate each item on a six point scale. from zero-“not at all” to five-“all the time in the last 30 days. Scoring the sum of all items on the scale in each category. Scores are compared between and previous scales Functioning improvement is determined with increased scoring and Problem Severity improvement is deteminded with decreased scores.
Ohio Scales are instruments developed to measure outcomes for youth 5-18 who recieve mental health services. Ohio Scales consists of four self reported domains-20-item functioning scale. 2-item severity scale, 4-item hopefulness scale and 4-item satisfaction scale. This tool has recieved the measurement tools Rating of “A-Psychometrics Well Demonstrated” based upon studies of reliability and validity as well as sensitivity and specificity.
Clinically significant improvement is defined as an increase in the score of 8 or more points. A low score on the Functing Scale indicates more impairment in meeting daily activities. OOCYS adminsters Ohio Scales at assessment, every 90 days and at discharge. OOCYS desires improvement of at least one point every three months, which allows child/youth and parent/guardian to experience progress and feelings of hopefulness. OOCYS acknowledges minimal improvement of at least one point and distinquishes the Significant Improvement as the 8 or more increased points in Functiong.
A referral log is retained that list referrals received, program start and completion dates with successful or unscuccessful designation. A successful designation is received when the youth and their parent/guardian complete the 12 hour course curriculum within the service plan period.
1-Eighty Program utilizes utilizes the It’s My Life curriculum, formalized adaptation of the PREP curriculum reviewed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA), listed in the National Registry of Evidenced Based Programs and Practices. The curriculum is presented in weekly, 2-hour segments for referred youth and their parents/guardian.
1-Eighty Program aligns with the OK First Time Offender Program. Curriculum emphasizes Cultural Awareness and Values, Communication Skills, Emotional Regulation, Smart Choices. Tobacco, alcohol and drug awareness. Referrals received from OJA, municipal/district courts, schools and parents. Typically, referrals with a misdemeanor offense or less are accepted. In FY21 the number of 1-Eighty participants declined by 34% from FY20. Suspectedly, COVID, changes in municipal and school operations played a role. First six months FY22 1-Eighty Program increased 350% (8 new participants vs 4) during same time period in FY21. 90% of the new FY23 participants school referred.It is believed numerically participants will increase FY24 due to increased issues with social media, substance use, fighting, shootings, thefts, etc.
